$30K Of Jewelry Pawned By Retirement Community Employee In Mechanicsburg: Police

An 52-year-old employee at a retirement community broken into 12 homes, stole more than $30,000 worth of jewelry and pawned it, police announced on Monday, April 17, 2023.

Gary Lee Troup Sr., told police he pawned the goods, when he was questioned and arrested on April 13— but the investigation the thefts began on Jan. 11 and the first theft was in late 2022, Lower Allen Township police explained in the release. 

The Mount Wolf resident was a maintenance worker at Bethany Village West when he broken into the homes, according to the police. 

Troup has been charged with 25 offenses including 18 felony counts of burglary, dealing in the proceeds of unlawful activities, and theft by unlawful taking the police said and court records confirmed.

His preliminary arraignment is scheduled before Magisterial District Judge Christopher Delozier on April 19 at 1:45 p.m., according to his latest court docket. 

Troup has a record of harassment, and pleaded guilty to the summary offense in 2017, court records show. It is unknown if the retirement community was aware of his record when they employed him. It is also unclear how long he had been working there.
